In the summer of 1966, stage and film star Mick McFarland is one of America’s most popular celebrities. When his pregnant fiancée is brutally murdered by a sniper hidden atop the University of Texas Tower, Mick disappears deep into the coastal Louisiana swampland to rethink his life.

A year passes before the tabloids discover his location, so he escapes across the Gulf of Mexico in a refurbished sailboat. During a freak tropical storm, he shipwrecks off Padre Island, Texas. Mick’s rescued by Julia Lawrence, a former Dallas waitress who—three years earlier—fled to the same obscure island due to a frightening personal connection with the assassination of JFK.
